When was your SSAS set up?

Many schemes were insurance contracts that allowed wide investment powers but when the pension rules changed in 2006, those insurance companies often resigned as Pensioneer Trustee as it did not suit their business model. This left member trustees having to find a new professional trustee or often continuing on their own without any specialist guidance.
Why are we asking this?

The critical point is to establish whether the SSAS provider that managed the scheme is still appointed. If they resigned in 2006, further investigation is recommended.
If your scheme was set up with the input of a SSAS provider, it is likely to have been registered correctly with HMRC. If it was set up without such input, there is an increased risk it was not correctly registered and further investigation is recommended.
